Medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), and overdose education and naloxone distribution (OEND), are among the most supported evidence-based practices (EBPs) in addiction medicine. Yet the real-world deployment of those EBPs at scale in diverse communities remains limited. Research shows that stigma toward these EBPs, toward people who use drugs or people receiving MOUD, plays a significant role in limiting the deployment and use of these EBPs in communities impacted by the opioid crisis.Full story -

If we hope to improve our response to the addiction and overdose crisis, we must focus on when addiction commonly starts: adolescence. Patients with substance use disorder (SUD) have frequent touchpoints with general hospitals and emergency departments (EDs). Between 2014 and 2018, 11.9% of inpatient hospitalizations and 9.4% of ED visits were for patients with SUD.
