NOW OPEN! Public Comment for The ASAM Criteria Fourth Edition, Volume 4: Behavioral Addictions draft framework

 

ASAM is seeking input from diverse stakeholders on the framework for the Behavioral Addictions Volume of the Fourth Edition of The ASAM Criteria®. Feedback received during the public comment period will be instrumental in refining the framework and decision rules of the Behavioral Addictions Volume.

The deadline to submit comments is November 20, 2026.

 

This document outlines the draft framework for the Behavioral Addictions Volume, including the following:  

• A proposed definition for behavioral addictions
• A proposed set of diagnostic criteria for behavioral addictions
• Principles of behavioral addictions treatment
• The continuum of care for behavioral addiction treatment for adults and adolescents
• Assessment and treatment planning considerations for behavioral addictions
• Core Service Characteristics for each level of care in the Continuum
