ASAM encourages you to use your voice, expertise, and knowledge to increase addiction prevention, treatment, remission, and recovery through volunteer opportunities. Here you will find opportunities to serve on ASAM’s councils, committees, subcommittees as well as task force groups. Terms of service can be short or long-term depending on the charge of the group.

Opportunities will be posted throughout the year so come back often to see what is available. ASAM Committees and Councils are comprised of members only. Subcommittees, Writing Committees, and Task Forces may be comprised of members and non-members.
Advanced Practice Providers (APP) Subcommittee - Application Open
The Membership Council is seeking volunteers to join the new Advanced Practice Providers (APP) Subcommittee. This group will help support the evolving needs
of APPs in addiction medicine, strengthen collaboration across the field, and
align APP-focused initiatives with ASAM’s 2026–2029 strategic goals. The
Subcommittee will play a key role in workforce development, professional
advocacy, and elevating APP voices within ASAM.

ASAM Criminal Justice Case Writers - Application Open
ASAM is looking for volunteers to write mock clinical cases for patients in jail, prison, and re-entering the community. Contributors will be mentioned in The ASAM Criteria Fourth Edition, Volume 3: Correctional Settings and Community Reentry.

ASAM Criteria Task Group on Interoperable Data Standards - Application Open
ASAM is seeking experts to serve on the ASAM Criteria Task Group on Interoperable Data Standards. This group will support ASAM’s efforts to explore, define, and recommend approaches for integrating interoperable data standards into ASAM tools and resources related to substance use disorder assessment and treatment planning.

Distinguished Fellows Selection Committee - Application Open
The Distinguished Fellows Selection Committee establishes the criteria for members to become ASAM Distinguished Fellows. The Committee is also responsible for making recommendations to the ASAM BOD or Executive Council for applicants who have met the criteria to become a Distinguished Fellow of ASAM.
