MISAM Supports Bills Requiring Telehealth Coverage Parity
On October 4th, the Michigan Society of Addiction Medicine (MISAM) submitted a statement of support for HB 4579 and HB 4580. Together, the bills would establish coverage parity among Medicaid and private payers for services provided by telehealth.
In the letter, MISAM emphasized the importance of telehealth as a vital tool to expand access to evidence-based treatment for addiction. Further, MISAM noted that ASAM policy supports payers covering telehealth services for addiction at an equitable basis as in-office services. In turn, the passage of HB 4579 and HB 4580 aligns with ASAM policy and would help facilitate fairer coverage for addiction treatment services provided by telehealth.
