HHS Extends Application Deadline for Medicaid Providers and Plans to Reopen Portal to Certain Medicare Providers
On July 31, the Department of Health and Human Services announced an application deadline extension for Medicaid, Medicaid managed care, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and dental providers to apply for financial relief through the Provider Relief Fund. These providers will now have until Friday, August 28, 2020 to apply. HHS also noted that it will soon provide a simplified application form to decrease the administrative burden of applying on smaller practices.
Additionally, starting the week of August 10, HHS will allow certain Medicare providers who experienced challenges in the Phase 1 Medicare General Distribution application period a second opportunity to receive funding. HHS will reopen the Phase 1 Medicare General Distribution application portal for providers, including many Medicaid, CHIP, and dental providers with low Medicare revenues, who did not complete an application by the deadline for this additional $20 billion round of funding. This reopening will allow those providers to apply to receive financial relief equal to 2 percent of their annual Medicare revenues. Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 28, 2020.
