Governor Jared Polis Signs SB20-007
On July 13, Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed SB20-007 into law. The act requires that insurers provide coverage for the treatment of substance use disorder in accordance with The ASAM Criteria or other nationally recognized guidelines for placement, medical necessity, and utilization management determinations, among other provisions.
The Colorado Society of Addiction Medicine previously endorsed the bill while it was under consideration in the Colorado Senate, and sent a letter to Governor Polis urging its passage. The act provides clarity to insurers on placement, medical necessity, and utilization management determinations. Furthermore, it ensures that clinicians can offer appropriate, evidenced-based care without fear of adverse coverage determinations.
