CSOO Urges Legislators to Appropriate Funding for Addiction Treatment Workforce Programs
On March 10, the Coalition to Stop Opioid Overdose (CSOO), of which ASAM is a member, sent a letter to key legislators in the House and Senate urging them to support the Loan Repayment Program for Substance Use Disorder Treatment Workforce and the Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Workforce Training Program, among other initiatives that are vital to strengthening the addiction treatment workforce.
The letter stressed the importance of investing in the addiction treatment workforce, noting that without critical increases in funding, the treatment gap will persist and lives will be lost. Furthermore, the letter noted that the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis has recognized the importance of expanding the addiction treatment workforce. The letter concluded by drawing attention to a table detailing CSOO's FY2021 funding requests for addiction treatment workforce programs attached to the bottom of the letter.
