On January 29, the Mental Health Liaison Group (MHLG) and the Coalition to Stop Opioid Overdose (CSOO), both of which ASAM is a member, held a roundtable discussion with Congressman David Trone to discuss legislative efforts by Congress to address mental health and addiction issues.

During the discussion, Congressman Trone shared the experience of his nephew Ian, who struggled with opioid use disorder, as well as his work as the chair of the Freshmen Working Group on Addiction.

He also highlighted efforts by Congress, as well as stakeholders at the roundtable, to pass various vital pieces of legislation, such as the MATE Act and the Opioid Workforce Act. Congressman Trone concluded the meeting by urging those in the room to continue searching for innovative solutions to the mental health and addiction challenges facing the country.
