ASAM Adopts Public Policy Statement on the Ethical Use of Drug Testing in the Practice of Addiction Medicine
On April 3, the Board of Directors of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) approved a new policy statement: Public Policy Statement on the Ethical Use of Drug Testing in the Practice of Addiction Medicine. This Policy Statement includes recommendations on the clinical use of drug testing, appropriateness of presumptive and definitive testing, and the responsibilities of clinicians when testing for drugs.
ASAM has developed a consensus document on the Appropriate Use of Drug Testing in Clinical Addiction Medicine, which provides a broad discussion of drug testing methods, procedures and practices; this policy statement describes ASAM’s position on the ethical use of drug testing in the practice of addiction medicine.
