ASAM Signs Letter Calling for Funding to Grow the Addiction Medicine Workforce
Rockville, MD - ASAM joined 18 other organizations in sending a letter urging the leadership of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies to fund programs in the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) “Public Health and Preventive Medicine” line item in Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) at the level of $24 million. The letter emphasizes the importance of programs that would train physicians and other public health workers in disease prevention and health promotion and grow the addiction medicine workforce. Specifically, the letter recommends the following levels of funding for FY20 for each program: $11,000,000 for Preventative Medicine Residency Training Programs, $11,000,000 for Public Health Training Centers, and $2,000,000 for Addiction Medicine Training Programs.
