ASAM Road Trip! Delivering the First ASAM Criteria Course

The ASAM Criteria Course debuted the week of April 15-19 in Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and Sellersburg, Indiana to provide addiction education for social workers and counselors across the state. ASAM partnered with the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction to launch the first set of courses, and nine more will be held in Indiana this year.

The ASAM Criteria Course aims to educate multiple audiences on the use and practice of The ASAM Criteria®. The course is designed to introduce healthcare professionals to the skills and practices needed to provide care according to The ASAM Criteria standards. The course can also serve as the initial stage for a credentialing program.

Drs. David Gastfriend, David Mee-Lee, and Corey Waller, and ASAM Staff, Arlene Deverman, Chief Learning Officer, and Connor Bellis, Senior Manager, Professional Development, rode in style in a black suburban. Quincy, ASAM’s unofficial Education mascot, accompanied the team on their adventure around Indiana. Arlene Deverman, had a chance to visit her hometown and high school in Huntington, IN. The team explored local attractions, enjoyed homemade candy, and were grateful for comfortable lodging throughout the state.

Quincy the ASAM elephant joined ASAM staff and esteemed addiction experts to deliver the first course at the Purdue University satellite campus. Drs. Gastfriend, Waller, and Mee Lee delivered the course to approximately 140 attendants. The course was extremely successful and encouraged strong engagement. The second day in Indianapolis engaged over 70 attendees.

Hosting of the ASAM Criteria Course will become available at the end of summer. If you’re interested in hosting a course in the near future, please fill out the form in the link below as it requires four months of advanced notice.
