The ASAM Criteria Course

The Course 

The ASAM Criteria Course comprises a comprehensive suite of competency-based learning activities that meets the learning needs of the multiple audiences making use of the Criteria and results in the appropriate use of the Criteria in practice. This is a practical workshop designed to help counselors, social workers, administrators, and other clinical staff develop patient-centered service plans and make objective decisions about patient admission, continuing care, and transfer/discharge for individuals with addictive, substance-related, and co-occurring conditions. The workshop content is based on information found in The ASAM Criteria: Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions, Third Edition and incorporates an opportunity for participants to practice applying the information through case-based activities.

How to Take the Course 

ASAM currently has an 8-Hour live and 8-Hour online offering on the ASAM Criteria. If you are interested in hosting an ASAM Criteria Course, please fill out the form below. If you are interested in taking the 8-Hour Online Course, please fill out the form below. Hosting a course usually requires a minimum of three (3) months advanced notice. Please fill out the below form to initiate the process for setting up a meeting to discuss hosting a course. Please note that due to a high volume of requests, you can expect a response within 3-5 business days. Meetings are typically scheduled 1-4 weeks from the date of your request. 

8-Hour eLearning Criteria Course

The ASAM Criteria Online Course designed to help counselors, social workers, administrators, and other clinical staff develop patient-centered service plans and make objective decisions about patient admission, continuing care, and transfer/discharge for individuals with addictive, substance-related, and co-occurring conditions.

This course is fully online and can be completed at your own pace. The flow of this online course uses a mix of didactic materials, case studies, learning activities, and assessments to help you understand the underlying principles of the ASAM Criteria, how to conduct multidimensional patient assessment, and determine an appropriate level of care. Further, by utilizing real-world scenarios, the course will prepare you to implement the ASAM Criteria effectively within the context of system challenges.
