murphyjames-wwwJames Patrick Murphy, MD, DFASAM is the founder and CEO of Murphy Pain Center and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is board-certified in Addiction Medicine, Pain Management, and Anesthesiology, and holds a Master of Medical Management (MMM) from the University of Southern California.

Dr. Murphy completed his Pain Management fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he also served on the faculty of the Mayo Medical School. He has held several leadership positions, including President of the Kentucky Society of Addiction Medicine and President of the Greater Louisville Medical Society.

A recipient of the Mayday Fellowship in Washington, D.C., Dr. Murphy is recognized for his commitment to improving healthcare access and policy. He has developed educational programs approved by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure and the Federation of State Medical Boards, and is a frequent speaker on addiction, pain, and public health topics, collaborating with regulatory agencies, law enforcement, and community organizations nationwide.

His work has been featured in peer-reviewed journals and across major media and digital platforms. A former U.S. Navy Commander and Naval Flight Surgeon aboard the USS Enterprise, Dr. Murphy has also participated in international surgical missions with Operation Smile, providing anesthetic care to children around the world.
