ASAM to CMS: Finalize Increased Payments for Prevention and Treatment Services
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently proposed its CY 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS), which includes several policies affecting addiction medicine. In a comment letter to the agency, ASAM urged CMS to support access to addiction treatment by delaying proposed practice expense changes, increasing payment for key prevention and treatment services, expanding telehealth flexibilities for intensive outpatient services, opposing payment cuts for certain evaluation and management services, updating policies related to extended-release buprenorphine, and developing future payment models that better recognize medically managed outpatient addiction care.
