On April 1st, over 80 organizations sent a letter to the Chair and Ranking Member of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, requesting Congress allocate at least $10.5 billion for discretionary Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) programs in the FY 2025 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations bill. Such HRSA programs, long underfunded, are unable to effectively address major health challenges in the country; sufficient funding of these programs will enable needed support, care, and workforce for strengthening the health of American communities.
Examples of HRSA discretionary programs include:
- Support for 15,000 community health center sites
- Support for the health workforce across the entire training continuum
- Maternal and Child Health programs providing patient-centered, evidence based programs
- The Ryan White/HIV/AIDS Program providing medical care and treatment services to over 500,000 people living with HIV
- Support for community- and state-based solutions to improve rural community health
- The Title X Family Planning program that increases access to contraception
