ASAM Supports Legislation to Incentivize Integrated Care Models in Primary Care

In July, ASAM signed a letter in support of S. 1378, Connecting Our Medical Providers with Links to Expand Tailored and Effective Act (the "COMPLETE Act"), to its sponsors, Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and John Cornyn. Ongoing workforce shortages and a lack of care coordination exacerbate patients' lack of access to mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) services, which can, in part, be addressed by the adoption of evidence-based, integrated care delivery models. The measurement-based, responsive Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) that integrates behavioral health care into the primary care setting has proven to be effective in particular, which features coordination between a primary care physician, a psychiatric consultant.
