Nearly 100 Stakeholder Organizations Endorse the Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act of 2023

On May 16th, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, along with nearly 100 stakeholder organizations, sent a letter to Speaker McCarthy, Majority Leader Schumer, Minority Leader Jeffries, Minority Leader McConnell, and the Chairs and Ranking Members of the House of Representatives Energy & Commerce and Judiciary Committees, and of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, to express their strong support of the Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act of 2023 ("the M-OTAA of 2023," H.R. 1359, S. 644). Citing a shortage of methadone treatment in the U.S. that contributes to racial, gender, and geographic inequities in access to such treatment - especially in rural areas - the letter asks Congress for the imminent passage of the bicameral, bipartisan M-OTAA of 2023 to save lives, help families, and strengthen American communities amidst the opioid addiction and overdose crisis. National organizations endorsing the M-OTAA of 2023 include the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the American Pharmacists Association.
