Retirement of ASAM’s EVP/CEO

Friends:

Penny Mills, ASAM’s Executive Vice President (EVP) and CEO, has decided she will retire at the beginning of June 2020.  She has given us nine+ years of outstanding leadership and accomplishment. We on the Board, staff and members of the organization will miss her inspiration, friendship and leadership.

Penny has presided over significant growth for the organization.  Her leadership set ASAM on a rapidly expanding growth trajectory through key programs and services for its members. More importantly, her legacy will ensure millions of Americans who suffer from addiction will have a better chance at remission and recovery.

Be assured that ASAM’s Board of Directors will search diligently to find the best-qualified candidate to succeed Penny as our next EVP/CEO.  The organization is in a strong operational position with an experienced and well-functioning senior staff team and a committed Board with effective governance and leadership.   

The Board has approved a task force which I will chair and we will retain a search firm to work with the task force and to conduct a national search.  For the remainder of her tenure, Penny will focus on the society’s business and strategic priorities and work with the Board to ensure a smooth transition.
