ASAM Sends Letter in Support of the Tobacco-Free Youth Act
On May 22, ASAM, along with 9 other groups including the American Lung Association, sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) expressing support for the Tobacco-Free Youth Act, which would raise the national age of sale for tobacco products to 21. The bill also contains provisions that would ensure that states can pass more stringent regulations regarding minimum age for sale of tobacco products without losing federal funding. The letter additionally urged the senators to consider requiring that the FDA finalize a rule in accordance with the bill 180 days after the passage of the legislation.
