Join the Elite Ranks of ASAM Distinguished Fellows

Every two years, ASAM offers members the opportunity to apply for Fellow status. The 2015 cycle will mark the shift of the Fellows award to the Distinguished Fellows award.

In April 2015, the Board of Directors voted to take the current Fellow title and turn it into a membership category while the current Fellow award will change to Distinguished Fellow. Members who already hold the Fellow title will automatically become a Distinguished Fellow in 2016.

The new Distinguished Fellows application is open to those with five years of consecutive membership who meet the criteria. 

The status of an ASAM Distinguished Fellow is a prestigious designation reserved for those who have invested their heart, time and energy contributing to the field of addiction medicine and ASAM. “Being able to add ‘DFASAM’ to your title is more than just another credential, but is a visual indication of your ongoing commitment to improving the quality of addiction treatment through clinical efforts, research, community involvement and/or academic contributions,” Dr. Ken Thompson, Chair of the Distinguished Fellows Committee noted as a reason for applying for the award.

Distinguished Fellows of ASAM are chosen based upon an outstanding and long-sustained demonstration of top-ranking competence in the field of addiction medicine.
