Join October Rally and Advocate for Addiction Solutions

Help tell our nation’s leaders that we support public health solutions to addiction by participating in ASAM’s Legislative Day on October 5, 2015 and a national rally the day before on October 4. ASAM’s 10th Annual Legislative Day is being coordinated with the campaign UNITE to Face Addiction, a grassroots mobilization of individuals, communities and organizations coming together to face addiction and stand up for recovery.

UNITE to Face Addiction is organizing a rally on Sunday, October 4, 2015 on the National Mall in Washington, DC to raise awareness of addiction as a major public health threat. Never before have tens of thousands of citizens stood up in the nation’s capital to speak with one voice about the public health crisis impacting more than 85 million Americans.

Following the Rally, on Monday, October 5, ASAM members will head to Capitol Hill to meet their Congressional representatives to discuss ASAM’s priorities, share concerns and offer their expertise on issues related to drug policy and addiction treatment. ASAM is coordinating its Legislative Day with UNITE to Face Addiction in an effort to flood Capitol Hill with voices calling for needed change. By working together to advocate for solutions to addiction, we can send a powerful message to Congress that addiction is preventable and treatable, that far too many of those affected are incarcerated and that people do recover.

We ask you to be one of many coming to Washington, DC to join in a show of solidarity and collective force to help the 22 million Americans with addiction, support prevention for those not yet affected, stand up for the 23 million more in recovery, and urgently act to save the 350 lives lost each day.

Here are a few things that you can do today to join in the mobilization:

• Go to https://www.facingaddiction.org/blog/partner/american-society-of-addiction-medicine-asam and sign up to join ASAM at the rally
• Mark your calendar and commit to be in Washington, DC on October 4 for the UNITE to Face Addiction rally and on October 5 for ASAM’s Legislative Day
• Find two friends or fellow members who will come with you
• Share your story about why you’re coming to the rally at www.facingaddiction.org and sign up to be a bus captain and fill a bus with people to come together to Washington, DC.
