ASAM Provides Message Manager Training

As part of ASAM's Patient Advocacy Task Force’s (PATF) communication strategy, members can now receive message manager training online. The training, taught by ASAM's consultant and media expert Sheila Strand teaches ASAM members how to effectively communicate their medical expertise and ASAM’s views of addiction treatment to reporters and other media representatives.

The online course is a recording of one of three hour-long trainings ASAM held for members during the month of September. During these sessions, members received valuable information, including how to effectively get points across to a reporter and what to wear during an interview. Ms. Strand also fielded member questions and discussed how to best approach representatives from each type of news outlet.
