ASAM Past President Elected to AMA Council

Michael M. Miller, MD, FASAM, past president of ASAM, was elected to the American Medical Association’s Council of Science and Public Health. The Council on Science and Public Health reports on medical, public health, and scientific issues that affect the practice of medicine, the public health system, the quality of patient care, and the translation of scientific research into patient treatment.

“I am so appreciative to have this opportunity to serve, as I have been well prepared for this Council by being on the front lines with others addressing one of our nation’s most pressing Public Health problems–addiction,” said Dr. Miller.

Many ASAM members are a part of the AMA Council to ensure that the addiction field is given a voice amongst all medical specialties. Dr. Miller joins ASAM’s president, Dr. Stuart Gitlow, as well as Dr. Ilse Levin on the Council. ASAM has held a seat in the American Medical Association House of Delegates since 1988.
