A Critical Time to Donate in Support of Improving Addiction Care

2015 marks the Ruth Fox Memorial Endowment’s 25th Anniversary, and now more than ever it is important to reflect on why this fund was first established. In 1990 ASAM leadership made a promise to honor the legacy of ASAM Founder, Ruth Fox, MD, by establishing the Ruth Fox Memorial Endowment with a goal to raise $10 million dollars.

Twenty five years later, the endowment is just at $3.6 million.

It is vital that the endowment continues to grow as it serves as the foundation for ASAM to expand its voice as the expert resource for addiction medicine. It builds a sustainable funding source to support the organization’s mission: Education, Treat, Advocate and Connect.

The endowment exists to support the organization’s ability to respond to major changes and pursue opportunities to grow and expand. The creation of the American Board of Addiction Medicine is just one of many examples of the major initiatives that were accomplished with backing from the endowment. The organization is also able to sponsor opportunities for physicians-in-training to explore addiction medicine as a specialty.

Our members need the resources to effectively treat their patients and to remove barriers that inhibit their ability to do so. Each pledge and donation ASAM receives ensures that they have those resources.
