2016 Ruth Fox Scholarship Open to Applicants

The Ruth Fox scholarship program was started to encourage emerging physicians-in-training to pursue the addiction medicine field. It is important for ASAM to provide the education for these new physicians to identify and treat patients with addictive disorders because many medical schools do not include addiction medicine coursework or rotations.

The scholarship includes travel, hotel and registration to the Annual ASAM conference, as well as to the Fundamentals of Addiction Medicine course. Over the years, ASAM has afforded more than 80 scholars with the opportunity to benefit from attending the annual conference.

Throughout the conference, scholars have the opportunity to meet and network with their colleagues as well as esteemed leaders. Scholars will have the opportunity to attend more than 40 presentations and 40 poster sessions highlighting the newest research and clinical findings.

ASAM’s more experienced members take pride in forging connections with these younger physicians and many have created a lasting mentorship relationship. Many ASAM scholars have worked their way to leadership positions in the organization, and more importantly within the field.
