ASAM Journal Impact Factor

Why is it important to members?

Expand all

The Journal of Addiction Medicine's (JAM) Impact Factor (IF), released in June 2023 by Clarivate’s Journal Citation Reports, jumped by nearly a full point to 5.5 in 2022 from 4.6 in 2021. JAM’s  IF has been steadily increasing since 2014. The IF metric is a ratio of the number of citations received in 2022 for articles published in 2021 and 2022 and the total number of citable articles that JAM published in 2021 and 2022.

Among the 21 journals in the “Substance Abuse” category, JAM’s ranking jumped from 7th in 2021 to 3rd in 2022, continuing to climb its way up from 10th in 2020. The higher a  journal’s category ranking, the more likely the journal is to be cited. Ranking is also a big factor in authors’ decision of where to submit papers.

“This growth reflects the impact of JAM on the field and the stature of the journal among its peer publications,” said JAM editor in chief David Fiellin. “We owe a lot to our authors, editors and readers who are deeply committed to advancing the science of addiction medicine.”
