MISAM Comments on Proposal to Expand SUD Health Homes
On June 10th, the Michigan Society of Addiction Medicine (MISAM) sent a comment letter to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services regarding a proposed policy expanding the services provided by Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Health Homes. Specifically, this proposal would add simulant use disorder and alcohol use disorder as eligible diagnoses for reimbursement.
In the letter, MISAM commended the department for proposing to expand the role of SUD Health Homes. Specifically, MISAM noted the key role that SUD Health Homes play to provide integrated care for SUD. Further, MISAM emphasized the importance of adding stimulant use disorder and alcohol use disorder as eligible diagnoses due to their widespread impact. Finally, MISAM urged the department to expand the scope of their proposal to include all forms of SUD as eligible diagnoses. As MISAM explained, all forms of SUD must be covered to provide high-level care and improve the state’s response to the overdose crisis.
