ASAM Attends the American Medical Association’s 2020 National Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C.

 Dr. Levin

On February 11, Dr. Ilse R. Levin, Chair of ASAM's Delegation to the American Medical Association (AMA), and Kelly M. Corredor, ASAM’s Vice President of Advocacy and Government Relations, attended the AMA’s 2020 National Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. They heard discussions and presentations led by various healthcare policy leaders, such as Seema Verma, the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare &  Medicaid Services, and Admiral Brett P. Giroir, MD, the Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Levin and Kelly were also pleased to see that the AMA's "2020 NAC miscellaneous bills action kit" includes information to help advocates support the Cannabidiol and Marihuana Research Expansion Act (S.2032), which would  improve the process for conducting scientific and clinical research on cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabis, and streamline the development of safe and effective cannabinoid-based drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). ASAM will continue to work with the AMA and other stakeholders to support passage of the bill.
