​ASAM Honors Innovators and Leaders in Addiction Medicine with Awards at 50th Annual Conference

Recipients acknowledged for their service and contributions to the advancement of addiction medicine, public policy, and education

Rockville, MD (February 14, 2019) – The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) will honor physicians and important leaders in the field of addiction medicine at the ASAM 50th  Annual Conference on April 4-7, 2019, in Orlando, Florida. Award recipients are being acknowledged for their service and contributions to the advancement of addiction medicine, public policy, and education. The following individuals will be recognized:

  • ASAM Presidential Award: Nora D. Volkow, MD
  • R. Brinkley Smithers Distinguished Scientist Award: Bankole Johnson, DSc, MD
  • John P. McGovern Award: Michael Miller, MD, DFASAM
  • ASAM Annual Award: William F. Haning, III, MD, DFAPA, DFASAM
  • ASAM Educator of the Year Award: Miriam S. Komaromy, MD, FACP, DFASAM
  • ASAM Public Policy Award: Senator Rob Portman
  • ASAM Public Policy Award: Congresswoman Katherine Clark
  • ASAM Media Award: Beth Macy, New York Times Bestselling Author

ASAM will present these awards at the ASAM 50th Annual Conference in Orlando, FL, held on Friday, April 4-7, 2019. Each year, at its Annual Conference, ASAM recognizes the innovators and leaders who have committed their efforts to treating addiction and saving lives by presenting prestigious awards to physicians and important leaders within the field of addiction medicine. ASAM acknowledges and honors awardees for their service and contributions to the advancement of addiction medicine, public policy, and education.
