This year ASAM presents two exciting Pre-Conference Offerings.

Note: 

  1. A separate fee is required to attend either The Pain & Addiction:Common Threads Course XIX or The ASAM Motivational Interviewing Workshop.
  2. Please register for only ONE of the pre-conference courses.
  3. All activities will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018; 8:00 am - 5:30 pm at the ASAM headquarters hotel, Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

ASAM's most popular Pre-Conference Course moves into its 19th year addressing the challenging overlap between pain and addiction. The course will review the latest research and clinical guidelines that address this patient population.

*Registrants receive complimentary access to the recorded sessions through the ASAM e-Learning Center following the conference.

Who Should Attend

This course is aimed toward healthcare providers, at any level, who see patients with chronic pain and substance use disorders. Provider specialties can include, but are not limited to: addiction medicine, pain medicine, emergency medicine, internal medicine, anesthesiology, and psychiatry.


The ASAM Motivational Interviewing Workshop

ASAM is creating and offering a new workshop on Motivational Interviewing for physicians and clinicians who work with patients with addiction. This workshop has short lectures and will mostly be interactive with attendees demonstrating and conducting Motivational Interviewing techniques.

Who Should Attend

This workshop providesan introduction to Motivational Interviewing and focuses on treating patients with substance use disorders.

Experience the world-famous Betty Ford Center in San Diego. Learn about their unified system of care, moving from expert clinical intervention to self-management, and advancements in medical education on addiction. Programs covered include Comprehensive Opioid Response with Twelve Steps (COR-12™), Young Adult Program, feedback-informed treatment, uses of technology in recovery environments, and Medical and Professional Education (MPE). A separate fee of $35 is required to attend this special tour/educational event and transportation is included. A portion of all registration proceeds will be donated to the Betty Ford Center.
