The resources listed below link to materials available on pain management and opioid related topics as well as materials from the live course. 

The CO*RE/ASAM Pain Management and Opioids: Balancing Risks and Benefits course is presented free of charge. No printed syllabus or handouts are provided at the course. Course attendees should download these materials to their laptops or mobile devices, or print handouts in order to follow the course and take notes.

ACE - Adverse Childhood Experiences

CAGE - Cut Down, Annoyed, Guilty, and Eye-Opener. A screening tool to test for problem drinking. The acronym is made up of the tool’s four questions. The tool takes less than one minute to administer. Note the CAGE-AID is the CAGE tool adapted to include drugs. Differences between the two are explained here.

DERS - Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale

ORT-OUD - A 9-question measure to classify a patient as high or low risk for misusing/abusing opioids prescribed for pain. A new modification of the original Opioid Risk Tool (ORT).

PEG - Pain intensity, Enjoyment of life, General Activity assessment. Derived from the Brief Pain Inventory

SF-36 - Functional Assessment

SOAPP - An assessment tool to help determine how much monitoring a patient on long-term opioid therapy might require There are four versions of SOAPP (with 5, 14, or 24 questions). If you suspect an issue, consider using the extended version. To achieve a shorter form, the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive value are lower than the full versions. Document which version of the tool selected.
