The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) is a medical professional society of more than 6,700 members with 50+ staff and a $10M annual operating budget. It is an energetic, fast-paced organization with multi-faceted opportunities in the area of addiction medicine.

Position Summary:

This is a pivotal position with a key role of promoting a positive image of ASAM education programs to various audiences (e.g., members, learners, external organizations, federal agencies, etc.). The Manager works across the 25-person department, across the organization, and with outside constituents to ensure successful creation, implementation, marketing, and operation of ASAM educational activities. This position works closely with the Chief Learning Officer on special projects and mission-related collaborations, and with other key staff and stakeholders. The Senior Manager also assists in assembling and preparing education department data and reports for the Medical Education Council, Board of Directors, and select education committees. The cross-program and cross-departmental nature of this position requires the Senior Manager to develop and maintain a broad understanding of all ASAM education programs and their relation to other ASAM initiatives and products.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead and assist with new and ongoing education collaborations with outside organizations; serve as positive advocate for ASAM education programs and initiatives.
  • Assist Chief Learning Officer with department-wide initiatives and projects, including oversight of education committees, external consultants, department meetings, etc.
  • Serve as the department’s key liaison with federal stakeholders, representatives of federal health agencies, and keynote special event presenters; ensure courteous, professional, and timely correspondence.
  • Manage two line-item budgets and provide assistance with remaining 30+ line-item department budgets to ensure revenue and expenses are on-target; maintain external escrow account with printer to ensure postage funds available for print promotions.
  • Manage and oversee education marketing projects (e.g., emails, postcards, brochures, final programs, etc.) in cooperation with members of the Education and Marketing teams, external designer, and external printer. This includes drafting, reviewing and/or copyediting materials to ensure clear, concise, and consistent marketing language.
  • Develop key education brochures and final programs by developing timeline; copywriting; and compiling, organizing, and revising content from various program leads across the department.
  • Draft and review monthly Education Offerings newsletter (67,000+ subscribers) and provide guidance and oversight for draft and review of quarterly Certification Hub newsletter (13,000+ subscribers) and quarterly ASAM Bridge newsletter (600+ subscribers) for supporters.
  • Maintain and organize retention of key education documents and communications related to this position.
  • Small amount of travel (1-3 trips a year) if needed to education courses to provide on-site assistance and management.
  • Maintain CME Events calendar on ASAM website.
  • Provide incoming staff with general department procedures and resources.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2-3 years of project management experience in an office environment required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in health, communications, education, or related field desired.
  • Association experience, particularly in a medical society desired.
  • Some experience with non-profit organizations desired.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent writing and copyediting skills.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Project management skills with ability to efficiently handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with ability to interact effectively, efficiently, and professionally with senior management, association leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and creativity valued.
  • Team player with a positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, and ability to have fun with team members.

  • 25-Member Education & Meetings Department and other staff across the organization
  • Vice President of Marketing and other members of the Marketing Team
  • Other medical organizations or addiction-medicine related agencies
