Position Title: Specialist, Professional Development (CME & LMS)

Reports To: Director, CME and Continuing Certification

Status: Exempt

Position Summary:

This position will report to the Director, CME and Continuing Certification to ensure successful coordination of CME administrative and education compliance processes of ASAM’s educational courses and products. Candidate must demonstrate an interest in working on medical education for physicians and clinicians and quickly develop a broad understanding of the ASAM education programs, ACCME accreditation requirements and Learning Management System (LMS) processes.


Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provide overall coordination for CME administrative and education compliance processes including assisting with surveys and reports
  • Coordinate CME applications, and provide tracking and support to project leads
  • Assist with the planning of meetings, prepare agendas, and be responsible for follow-up on minutes and action items for committee meetings
  • Assist with the accurate management of records (hard copy and electronic files) for all CME education activities
  • Coordinate materials and information to be posted to Learning Management System for education courses
  • Review content in the LMS for compliance with accreditation rules and LMS best practices and serve as the point of contact for LMS user questions
  • Interact with members and customers regarding CME/CE, addiction medicine certification and maintain of certification (MOC)
  • Assist with accurate and organized management of records for education activities and assist with ensuring courses adhere to ACCME standards and guidelines
  • Interact with members and customers regarding courses, programs, and products
  • Open to new ideas and other duties as they arise and are assigned and draft correspondence as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2-3 years of administrative experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Nonprofit or association experience, particularly in a medical society preferred but not required
  • Accreditation and certification knowledge or experience preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of basic project management techniques and customer service skills are required
  • High comfort level utilizing online meetings platforms (eg. Zoom, Teams), virtual learning platforms, screensharing and shared document editing
  • Experience in coordinating online education and conducting webinars is a plus

  • Excellent organizational skills including setting priorities in work assignments, coordinating projects, and following up on assignments with minimal direction
  • Ability to efficiently handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively, efficiently, and professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and creativity valued
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, with positive attitude
  • Team player with a positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, and ability to have fun with team members

Works closely with:

  • Director, Professional Development regarding the ASAM LMS
  • All members of the Education & Meetings Department and other staff as needed
  • ASAM committees, members, and other addiction-related medical organizations
