Biography - Karen A. Miotto, MD, DFASAM


Karen A. Miotto, MD, DFASAM is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA. Dr. Miotto’s academic, research, and clinical expertise is in addiction psychiatry. Dr. Miotto has spent decades studying medication and treatment development for addictive disorders.

Dr. Miotto has also applied her expertise in addiction psychiatry to her work in topics, such as organized medicine, occupational health, as well as physician health and wellbeing. Dr. Miotto is the President-elect of the California Society of Addiction Medicine and currently serves as the Chair of the Society’s Physician Wellbeing Committee. Dr. Miotto is also a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Currently, Dr. Miotto serves on the ASAM Board of Directors as Ex-Officio member; Chair, Publications Council and California Chapter member.

Dr. Miotto is a well-recognized addiction educator and researcher and is a frequently invited speaker at local and national meetings on topics related to physician health and addiction research.
