Biography - Surita Rao, MD

Dr. Surita Rao is the Chairman and Director of the Behavioral Health Department at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. She is a psychiatrist specializing in addiction. She completed Medical School in India and did her psychiatry residency and fellowship training at St.Vincent’s Hospital in New York and the Department of Psychiatry Yale University School of Medicine. She has been on the faculty at Yale and Emory Universities and worked with a private practice group in Atlanta. She has published articles and a book chapter in the field of addiction psychiatry. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Department of Psychiatry, University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She does teaching and supervision for psychiatry residents and medical students.  She does a combination of administrative, clinical and teaching activities. She is active in the Connecticut Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine  and serves on the CT ASAM executive committee. She served as the chapter president for CT ASAM.
