Biography - David Galbis-Reig, MD, DFASAM

GalbisReigDavid-wwwDavid Galbis-Reig, M.D., DFASAM received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia in 1999. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2004. He is board certified in Internal Medicine since 2004 by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine since 2010. He worked as a medical hospitalist at Ascension Wisconsin for one year prior to transitioning to the inpatient mental health and addiction unit where he continued to provide medical consulting services and substance use detoxification and treatment. He currently serves as the Medical Director of Addiction Services at Ascension Wisconsin All Saints where he has been employed since 2004. In this capacity, he continues to passionately advocated for appropriate medical treatment of patients with mental illness and substance use disorders. Dr. Galbis-Reig is currently also involved in numerous educational activities to decrease prescription drug abuse and the burden of addiction to opioids in Racine and Kenosha Counties in Wisconsin. He is an active member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) where he has served as a member of the ASAM Review Course Planning Committee for four years and is a contributing author to the ASAM white paper on the science of drug testing. He was a member of the Wisconsin Marijuana Prevention Ad-Hoc Committee of the State Council on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (SCAODA) tasked with developing evidence-informed policy recommendations to the State Government regarding marijuana. He has served as the Secretary of the Wisconsin Society of Addiction Medicine (WISAM) for the past two years and has been the Delegate of WISAM to the Wisconsin Medical Society Annual Business Meeting. He has also been an active member of the Wisconsin Medical Society and a Trustee of the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation. He is currently serving as the Vice President-MD of the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation.
