Position Title: Manager, Quality Improvement

Reports To: Director, Quality Improvement

Status: Full time, Exempt

Position Summary:

ASAM is a medical professional society of over 6,000 members with a total staff of 40+ and a $10M annual operating budget. It is an energetic, fast-paced organization with multi-faceted opportunities in addiction medicine. Its clinical guidelines and standards have steadily gained widespread adoption, supporting improvements in addiction treatment.

This newly created position will report to the Director of Quality Improvement, and will engage with ASAM leadership, society members and partners to advance quality care for addiction. The manager will work to support ASAM’s Quality Improvement Council’s mission and will work directly with related committees to develop and disseminate ASAM quality improvement related resources (e.g., clinical practice guidelines, consensus documents, and performance measures). The manager will provide project management support to the Council in executing its strategic plan, including engaging experts and overseeing work led by external consultants.

The hours of the full-time position will be defined on a flex-schedule, during East Coast (Rockville, MD). business hours, Monday-Friday.


  • Support ASAM’s Quality Improvement Council, clinical practice guideline writing committee and its associated subcommittees.
  • Support ASAM’s Quality Improvement division in managing expert committees’ efforts related to clinical practice guideline development and quality and performance measurement.
  • Support development and dissemination of ASAM’s quality improvement-related documents and resources.
  • Engages ASAM members to serve as experts on relevant workgroups and committees.
  • Primary responsibilities for these roles include:
    • Managing projects and relationships with organizations retained to help create, update, and/or validate ASAM quality-improvement related documents.
    • Researching questions related to ASAM quality improvement-related documents and resources.
    • Engaging with ASAM’s marketing team and partner organizations to support marketing and dissemination of ASAM quality improvement-related materials.
    • Drafting media content to promote developments and achievements across quality improvement-related work.
    • Supporting council and committees including drafting meeting minutes, updating reports to ASAM’s Board of Directors, organizing conference calls and face-to-face meetings, and preparing and tracking project budgets.
    • Operationalizing new policies and procedures on an as-needed basis.
  • Some travel may be required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2-3 years of work experience in relevant health care setting (e.g., association, quality improvement organization, consulting) desirable.
  • Experience with guideline development, specifically with the GRADE and RAND/RAM Methodologies desired. Including conducting literature reviews.
  • Experience with health care quality improvement initiatives (including performance measures, tool development, collaboration with external organizations like CMS and NQF) desired.
  • Experience with clinical document publication a plus.
  • Experience with patient registries a plus.
  • Master’s degree in Health Administration, Policy or a related field desirable.
  • Experience with MS Office products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
