Position Title: Coordinator, Membership

Reports To: Director, Membership and Chapter Relations

Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) is a medical professional society of over 4,300 members with 30 staff and a $6.1M annual operating budget. It is an energetic, fast-paced organization with multi-faceted opportunities in the area of addiction medicine.

This position will provide administrative and project support in the areas of Membership and Chapter Relations and general office support to the society.


  • Process new member applications and confirm license information
  • Execute onboarding plan to welcome and integrate new members
  • Lead member service contact for membership-related issues
  • Assist in maintenance of membership database, files and communications
  • Process changes and payment information to membership records
  • Performs monthly quality control checks to ensure data accuracy and consistency
  • Responsible for performing data entry and data clean-up projects to routinely and systematically improve the database integrity
  • Generates member list to disseminate to outside vendors and others
  • Serve as a back-up to the Manager of Membership and Chapter Relations to reconcile national and chapter dues
  • May serve as Staff liaison to assigned committees
  • Provide administrative/project support for membership initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Communicates with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, disseminate or explain information, process orders and address customer needs.
  • Monitors and responds to ASAM membership email box

Works closely with:

  • Staff, Members and Committees

Education and Experience:

  • One to two years of experience working in a Membership department or in a general administrative support capacity within an association.
  • Experience working with medical associations is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel.
  • Comfortable working with numbers and able to reconcile transactions.
  • Ability to efficiently handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively, efficiently and professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written, organizational, communication and customer service skills are required.
  • Resourcefulness and creativity valued.
  • Team player with positive attitude, enthusiastic energy and ability to have fun with team members.

Recruiting Salary Range: $37,000 to $40,000 (with a robust benefits package).
