Biography and Statement

Paul Katz, DO

1. How would your election benefit ASAM and the field of addiction medicine?

I am an effective team builder and will continue to build therapeutic alliances both within our communities professionally and reaching out to the patients we serve as well as those who decide how we spend our health care dollars.

2. What are your greatest contributions to ASAM and the field of addiction medicine?

I am committed to continue to work with others, to the best of my abilities, to foster, educate and encourage others to build the ASAM mission. I feel that my greatest contribution to ASAM has been to serve as an effective role model within my local medical community.

Biographical Sketch

I am a Board-Certified Family Practice Physician and a Diplomat of the American Board of Addiction Medicine. As the founder of the Chesapeake Wellness Centers, I have provided strategies for co-occurring disorders and medication assisted treatment for addiction.

I have served as the Chairman of the Education Committee and as past Secretary of the Maryland Society of Addiction Medicine. I am currently President-Elect of MD-DCSAM and serve nationally on the American Society of Addiction Medicine's Payor Relations Committee.

I promote the basic premise that a true integration of community-based primary care, mental health and substance use disorder treatment to be the best practice model.
