ASAM Structural Racism in Addiction Medicine Survey Results

by | January 18, 2021

In the fall of 2020, ASAM asked its members to answer a survey on structural racism in addiction medicine. The survey probed on two main areas. The first area was racism as it affects the health professionals who treat addiction. The second area was racism as it affects patients who suffer from addiction and the care they are able to access and receive. Emailed to ASAM’s 6,500 members, the survey received 310 responses. Survey results have been reviewed by ASAM’s Officers and its Board of Directors. Survey results will inform ASAM’s operational priorities in 2021, as well as long-term strategic planning. Summary results being made publicly available.
