Apply to Become an ASAM Fellow!

by Magazine Staff | November 4, 2013

The prestigious FASAM designation is granted biennially to a chosen group of ASAM physician members in recognition of their significant contributions to the Society and the field of addiction medicine. The 2013-2014 application will be available to eligible members beginning October 31. This is a great opportunity to join the distinguished ranks by receiving recognition for your considerable professional efforts.

“The Fellows program is a highly-respected component of ASAM that showcases select physicians whom have greatly contributed our field,” Kenneth Thompson, Chair of the Fellows Committee added.

Qualified candidates should demonstrate competence in the field of Addiction Medicine, exceptional professionalism, significant contributions and involvement, and noted leadership within ASAM and his or her state.

As a Mark of Distinction, Fellows employ the FASAM designation after their names to provide a description of their unique position. The designation represents the Awardee as a distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addition Medicine.

To qualify to become a Fellow of ASAM, candidates must meet rigorous criteria such as being a member for at least five consecutive years, giving significant service to the Society and being certified by ABAM. Please note that this year’s application has a new criterion: a written endorsement from the candidate’s current or immediate Regional Director indicating reasonable knowledge and validation. Members of the Fellow Committee will review all submissions in January 2014, and candidates will be notified by February, 2014. ASAM will present Fellow certificates during the Annual Business Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
