The American Society of Addiction Medicine issued a press release this morning applauding the release of "Addiction Medicine: Closing the Gap between Science and Practice" by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University.
CASA's report recognizes addiction as a brain disease, and that health care practice needs to be reformed to incorporate the scientific knowledge about treatment and prevention into medical practice, physician and provider training, certification and accreditation programs.
