Help Prevent the Closure of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Databases

Members of the Substance Abuse Librarians and Information Specialists (SALIS) are asking for help in safeguarding core research collections of on the subjects of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

In 2004 the U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism cut funding for the Alcohol and Alcohol Problems Database (ETOH), which is one of the largest databases on the subject worldwide. As a result, in 2006 the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse was forced to close its library, which held a collection of significant works dating from the mid-1930s on.

SALIS members are actively campaigning to prevent further loss of access to the many databases, journals, and other resources on alcohol and related topics.
