NCADD Alcohol & Drug-Related Birth Defects Awareness Week

May 17, 2012

National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (NCADD) and its National Network of Affiliates declared May 14-May 20 as a week of awareness for the dangerous effects of consuming alcohol and drugs during pregnancy.

Such effects include Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorders (FASD), which are the leading known cause of developmental disabilities in newborns, and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), which causes post-birth withdrawal in newborns. NCADD offers numerous programs and services to help spread awareness and education for those who are pregnant or who are planning to become pregnant.
