Reasons for Membership in ASAM:

Membership is valid from the day you join until December 31 of the current year. Renewal notices will be sent in the fall for the following year's membership.

  • Free copies of ASAM News and the Journal of Addiction Medicine. Both are also available online. (Note: Early Career Physicians, Residents, and Students receive only online-access to the journal, print copies are not mailed to these members.)

Job seekers can also post free and confidential resumes, and receive email notification of new job listings.
  • Addiction Medicine 101 – a series of slide presentations that will educate and enhance your professional development and clinical practice, and is available to members from the Members' Only section of the website.

Medical Students and Residents:

ASAM offers a special, discounted national membership for medical students and residents. National Membership is FREE for medical students and $35 for residents. Membership is valid from the day you join until the end of the year. In addition to many of the benefits described above, students and residents can take advantage of the following additional benefits:

  • Residents may apply for the Ruth Fox Scholarship, which pays for travel and registration costs for the Annual Medical-Scientific-Conference, including the Ruth Fox Course for Physicians. Scholarship recipients will also get to meet with ASAM Board Members and other leaders at the annual convention.
  • Involvement in the largest leading professional society actively seeking to define and expand the field of addiction medicine.
