Associate Membership

The Associate Member category is open to individuals who teach, conduct research or provide clinical care for individuals who are at risk for or have a substance use disorder.

Why join ASAM? As the largest community dedicated solely to advancing the quality of addiction medicine, ASAM brings you opportunities for professional development, the latest in addiction research, the latest news in addiction medicine, and the opportunity to network with colleagues. ASAM offers you the opportunity to meet colleagues who work in other areas of addiction medicine to share research, treatments, and experiences.

ASAM is working to bring together all addiction professionals in order to bring a cohesive voice for addiction medicine for the benefit of professionals and their patients/clients whether it is the latest in research, cutting edge treatments, or the exchange of knowledge.

Who Should Join as an Associate Member?

Approved Professions must have a state clinical license or equivalent master's level certification if no clinical licensure is available in their state AND must spend at least 25% of their time providing clinical care to individuals who are at risk for or have a substance use disorder. * A certificate is accepted if clinical licensure is not available in the applicant's state. 

Professions marked with an * must also have at least a master's level degree.

Application Requirements

All Associate member applicants must:

    • Be in good standing within their discipline.  Applicants that work in a clinical setting must maintain an active license or certification.  This will be verified prior to the approval of the application.

    • Certify that at least 25% of their professional time over the past year involved teaching, research, or clinical care for individuals who are at risk for or have a substance use disorder.
