Price: $35 (A share of the proceeds will be donated to Dee's Place)
Note: There are less than 100 spots available. Be sure to register early to reserve your spot.
*** Please be aware that this session is concurrent with the Pre-Conference Courses (Pain and Addiction Course and Fundamentals Workshop). ***
Participants will visit Dee's Place, a recovery center located in east Baltimore, where clients are able to seek help with addiction 24-hours a day. Dee’s Place assists people seeking help with recovery by hosting 12-step meetings, referring individuals to appropriate drug treatment programs, and connecting them with appropriate support services for their housing, legal, vocational, and health needs. Dee's also provides a buprenorphine program at Dee’s with a team that includes a certified addictions counselor and peer counselors. By co-locating services in a trusted recovery community, the buprenorphine program creates a new paradigm that provides medically based treatment within a trusted and supportive recovery setting. This model is valuable in engaging a resistant population in treatment and then transitioning them to ongoing treatment in the primary care setting.
Participants will interact with peer counselors and learn about their role in community-based addiction treatment, as well as interact with current clients at Dee’s Place to gain insight on how and why refractory patients link to treatment.
