In 2009, The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) transferred the certification examination to the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM). The next examination will be November 8, 2014 and the last deadline to apply for the exam is May 31, 2014. See ABAM's website for details about exam deadlines and fees.

The course features a three-day program of the core content of addiction medicine presented by experts in the field, supported by an extensive print and electronic syllabus.
