ASAM's 8th Annual Legislative Day!

On October 23rd, ASAM hosted Legislative Day at Capitol Hill. Legislative Day is an opportunity for ASAM members to meet with their Congressional leaders to discuss key ASAM issues, share concerns and impart their expertise on issues related to drug and addiction treatment policies. The day began with an advocacy training and breakfast orientation in Washington, D.C. Congressman Tim Ryan (Ohio) spoke at the morning’s event, provided tips and answered members’ questions.

Approximately 40 ASAM members met with members of Congress and their staff to discuss key policy issues, including the implementation of the parity law and combating and treating prescription drug abuse. A total of about 90 meetings were scheduled.

Congressional leaders were asked to sign a letter requesting Agencies release final or sub-regulatory guidance on disclosure of medical necessity criteria, scope of service including parity in addiction medications and rules for use of non-quantitative treatment limits.
