 ASAM Advocacy Events

ASAM’s advocacy days and briefings are intended to educate lawmakers about the concept that addiction is a treatable disease.  Furthermore, these events afford our members an opportunity to bring addiction-related issues of particular interest to the attention of their Congresspersons.

This year's event will include a breakfast advocacy training session and pre-arranged Congressional office visits. All courses and Dates are listed below.

Urge Congress to Pass A Mental Health and Addiction Parity Act this Year

Sponsors of the House and Senate parity bills have agreed to a compromise bill.  Efforts to move this bill through either chamber have not been successful and the end of the 110th Congress is looming.  Please urge your US Representative and US Senators to vote on this bill:  1. Call, fax or email your legislators and ask them to pass the strongest parity legislation possible and to pass it before the end of this Congressional session.  [Contact your U.S. Representative]  [Contact your U.S. Senator]

Support the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, H.R. 1108

On July 30, 2008, the US House of Representatives passed legislation that authorizes the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products.  The Senate has not yet taken up this bill.  Please urge your US Senators to vote on this important legislation!  [Contact your U.S. Senator]
